Environment

Respect for the environment and its preservation are fundamental of the long-term vision of Bedeschi.

Pollution reduction, investment in Research & Development, implementation of modern and environmentally friendly equipment are just some of the ongoing activities. These actions have been shared by the whole team, according to a common plan.

INNOVATIVE ENGINEERING

There is no improvement without innovation.
Innovating represents one of the most relevant drivers of Bedeschi's activities, which, with its research and development department, initiates synergies with Universities and innovative business networks.

The company's innovative engineering represents corporate sustainability as a target that includes emissions reduction.

An example of this is the project carried out in Australia for Cargill, the world leader in the food industry. Bedeschi provided an innovative shiploader for loading grain and seeds onto ships. In addition to meeting the highest environmental standards, the machine has also reduced the average mooring time of ships by more than 50 percent through an analysis of the project and its potential impacts. This result has a number of positive impacts, including a reduction in fuel consumption, a reduction in activity-related noise pollution, and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

POWER CONSUMPTION

A reduction in energy absorption is also essential in order to reduce environmental impacts.

Through the application of so-called DEM analysis, Bedeschi developed solutions to optimise (and thus minimise) energy consumption, thereby enabling machinery to be studied and designed to minimise energy consumption.

This technology has been applied by customers such as Forterra (UK) and for the project Reserve (USA).

DUST CONTROL

Other technologies on which Bedeschi is pushing for environmental protection are Enclosed and Pipe Conveyors, which help to avoid emissions and spills while reducing the amount of energy used during the process.

For years Bedeschi's R&D department has been committed to reducing the weight of its machines in order to reduce its carbon footprint as well. Finally, the use of this technology ensures that the material is completely sealed throughout its transport to or from the holds of the ship on which it is loaded or unloaded. As a result, dust collection equipment is minimized and sometimes eliminated.

This innovation was first implemented in Renova, Argentina.

ECO-HOPPERS AND
CONTROLLED FLOW CHUTE

These technologies consist in the application of systems to monitor dust production through flow-controlled nozzles, filters and dry mist that use micro-droplets of atomised water to keep the environment clean.

Bedeschi has developed special systems such as Eco-hoppers, which combine design, dust suppression, suction system, and cascade chutes to facilitate the handling of dusty materials without causing spills.

Additionally, the Bedeschi team focused on the use of environmentally friendly oils and greases as well as the energy recovery system.

Examples of these applications can be found in Riga Bulk Terminal, Latvia and for the project Melon in Cile.

ENERGY AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Bedeschi has mapped its carbon footprint by accurately defining its impact in terms of GHGs, in order to develop an appropriate compensation strategy.

COMPARISON OF CATEGORY 1 AND 2

OUR NUMBERS

The strategy includes the purchase of electricity under a Guarantee of Origin (GO) for the compensation of indirect emissions.

CORPORATE BEST PRACTICE

Bedeschi has started several corporate best practices in different areas: from water consumption to the responsible use of paper and plastic, from the canteen, to sustainable mobility.

The company is committed to raise awareness among its employees on these themes, providing tools and services necessary to recreate an eco-sustainable environment inside the company.

PAPER

The use of paper is controlled, limited only to essential needs thanks also to integrated systems that monitor the low rate of use.

PLASTIC

Towards the elimination of the use of plastic at all levels, from offices to factories, through purchasing procedures increasingly focused on the plastic-free goal.

ELECTRIC CARS

Charging stations have been installed for recharging electric cars to support and promote green mobility with the aim of a future with a reduced consumption of fossil fuels.

ASBESTOS FREE

An important asbestos removal operation was carried out from all BEDESCHI plants with the aim of eliminating any potential health risk.

ISO 9001

The control and tracing of waste and emissions are also guaranteed by the quality certification ISO 9001which has been achieved for over ten years.

ELECTRICITY

We’ve substituted the traditional lightning with LED bulbs which consume far less electricity and last longer over time.

RECYCLING

A separate waste collection is conducted. Each recyclable material is sent for reuse processes or controlled disposal.

PRODUCTION PROCESSES

Use of ecological greases and oils in the production process and advanced research to create increasingly technologically advanced systems and machines in line with the highest environmental standards

CANTEEN

Canteen service for employees with zero kilometer and organic food, constant monitoring of consumption to limit waste and food tracking for maximum safety.

INTERNAL COMMITTEE

Procedures and behaviour are constantly monitored by an internal committee dedicated to identifying best-practices in the environmental field for increasingly ambitious ecological standards.

WATER

Water is a precious commodity, therefore, we try to reduce its consumption, thanks also to water bottles provided to employees and bottles that limit the waste and accumulation of plastic containers.

SPACE

The space for garbage collection is optimized, rationalized through stackable containers.

TREEDOM FOREST

A collaboration that aims to consolidate Bedeschi's green commitment even beyond national borders, fighting CO2 emissions and supporting the economic, social and environmental benefits of Treedom's agroforestry projects. Bedeschi has planted 300 trees in four countries around the world: Ecuador, Kenya, Tanzania, and Madagascar. Treedom also estimates that the trees in this forest will absorb 87.50 tonnes of CO2 over the first 10 years of its life.

Our corporate forest was founded with the intention of having a positive impact on the environment and on society. In fact, participation in the Treedom project is guarantor of tangible benefits: from fighting deforestation to supporting the rural communities involved and biodiversity.
